Salisbury City clarifies Anne Street Village status and funding.

by Madi Wagner / Salisburylocal.org

The City of Salisbury clarified issues regarding Anne Street Village following the June 3, 2024 City Council meeting. The City confirmed that there are no plans to close Anne Street Village. In late March, the City reached out to organizations in the Salisbury community to explore potential partnerships for operating the village.

Multiple organizations showed interest in collaborating with the City to enhance the operations at Anne Street Village. As a result, the City is now in the process of issuing a Request For Proposals (RFP) to identify the best partner for the project. The aim is to improve the facility's management and care of individuals experiencing homelessness.

During the Council meeting, it was proposed to reallocate Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to complete projects at Truitt Street Community Center and Waterside Park Restroom and Pavilion. The $69,000 remaining from the 2023 CDBG funds, initially designated for Anne Street improvements, was reallocated due to insufficient funding for necessary ADA modifications at the site.

To address this, a substantial amendment to the 2023 Block Grant Action plan was proposed to allow the funds to be redirected to priority projects affected by increased construction costs. The decision was made to postpone Anne Street funding until a suitable partnership is established, ensuring better use of resources in the future.
