Charlotte Fire Department offers free Citizen Fire Academy for residents.

Staff Report / cltlocal.org

The Charlotte Fire Department is offering a free Citizen Fire Academy for Charlotte residents. This program aims to provide participants with an understanding of the daily lives of professional firefighters and enhance awareness regarding fire and life safety.

Participants will gain insight into the department's services and capabilities and have the opportunity to learn and practice various skills of a professional firefighter.

The academy is open to adults 18 years or older residing in Charlotte and participants are selected based on demographics and their ability to engage with their community.

The nine-week academy will start on August 15 and meet every Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Graduates will receive a certificate of completion, and there is no cost for participation as all materials are provided.

It is important to note that the Citizen Fire Academy is a learning experience and not meant to train individuals to become firefighters or provide assistance at fires.
