X Ruiz, a student at San Diego Miramar College, faced a decision after high school to join the military or go to college. After spending time at San Diego Mesa College and serving in the U.S. Navy, Ruiz returned to school in 2022 to study child development at Miramar College. As he got involved on campus, Ruiz became passionate about creating sustainable and inclusive spaces for student organizations.

Ruiz is actively involved in various clubs and organizations on campus, including the Black Student Union, Miramar College Associated Student Government, Muse Club, Music Club, Student Veterans Organization, and Latinx conVoces. He is working alongside his partner, Claudio Nevells, in the ASG to improve campus communication and student wellness. Ruiz is launching the college's first student-run podcast to further engage with the student body and campus community.
