**New Contracting Opportunity for Food Cart Manufacturers in LA County**

The LA County Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) is inviting manufacturers, engineers, or authorized resellers to participate in a Request for Bid to design, manufacture, and deliver over 180 food carts. The types of carts required include integrated grill carts, hot-holding carts, prepackaged food carts, and cut fruit carts. These carts are intended for sidewalk vendors to comply with the California Retail Food Code.

This initiative aligns with the new Sidewalk Vending Ordinance and program that took effect on August 4. Under this ordinance, all sidewalk vendors selling food in the Unincorporated Areas of LA County are required to possess a Sidewalk Vending Registration Certificate.

The DEO plans to provide these carts at no cost to sidewalk vendors to enhance economic growth and promote community health, safety, and well-being.

Interested parties should prepare to submit their proposals by October 15. Here are the key steps:

1. Register as a vendor with LA County at doingbusiness.lacounty.gov.

2. Review the Request for Bid requirements at bit.ly/FoodCartRFB and attend the virtual non-mandatory bidder’s conference on September 26, 2024, at 10 a.m. Registration for the conference can be completed at bit.ly/SVBiddersConference.

3. Obtain approval for cart blueprints from the Department of Public Health (DPH) prior to the contract award. Note that post-bid approvals are accepted but must be secured beforehand.

4. For inquiries regarding cart blueprint approval, contact the DPH’s Environmental Health Mobile Food Program at (626) 430-5560 or via email at PlanCheck_Food@ph.lacounty.gov.

5. Additional training materials for cart blueprints will be available at bit.ly/SidewalkVendors.
