Sarasota County Urges Safe Halloween Decorations

Staff Report / sarasotalocal.org

Sarasota County Emergency Services advises using flashlights or battery-operated candles for Halloween decorations. This recommendation aims to enhance safety during the spooky season, particularly for children in costumes.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, decorations are involved in over 800 reported home fires annually, with nearly one-third of these fires ignited by candles. To prevent accidents, residents are encouraged to use battery-operated candles and to keep flammable items away from open flames and heat sources, such as light bulbs and heaters.

Safety remains a top priority as families prepare for Halloween festivities.
