Cornell Unveils Mobile Battery System for Events
Cornell University is piloting a mobile battery system to replace diesel generators at major campus events such as Slope Day and Graduation. The project is led by the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability and the Campus Sustainability Office. The mobile system was developed in partnership with Viridi and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and is funded by the New York Power Authority.
According to the announcement from Cornell, the battery system offers a clean, quiet alternative to the diesel generators. It is designed to reduce emissions, eliminate the need for frequent refueling, and improve safety during events. The initiative forms part of the university’s ongoing efforts to advance sustainability on campus.
