In 2020, a couple sat on Boundary Breaks Vineyard’s Adirondack chairs overlooking the lake and drank a bottle of Riesling Reserve #198. The conversation led to a deeper discussion about winegrowing after the Darcys showed “genuine curiosity” about how wine is made.

Over time, Bill and Kristy Darcy purchased a 20-acre parcel not far from Boundary Breaks and asked the Boundary Breaks team for help establishing a vineyard. Four years after their first conversation, the Darcys and their sons—Billy, Jake, and Harrison—referred to as the Darcy Boys—had planted five acres of Riesling.

The post says Bill and Kristy took a “thoughtful, disciplined approach.” Instead of assuming results would carry over automatically, they sought advice from experienced growers and industry professionals, with the view that successful vineyards are built before planting.

In 2023, the Darcy Boys installed extensive drainage tile and removed tons of rock to prepare the land for planting. The vineyard was planted in 2024.

Since planting, the Boundary Breaks vineyard team has managed the site on the Darcys’ behalf. Bill stays in regular contact with Boundary Breaks Vineyard Manager Kees Stapel while continuing his professional career, and the family visits the vineyard throughout the growing season.

Boundary Breaks says it expects the Darcy Boys Vineyard to produce exceptional fruit for many years based on the vineyard’s location, site preparation quality, and management practices. The post says the vineyard is off to an “excellent start.”
