Salisbury and Salisbury University team up for housing study

by Katherine Murphy / Salisburylocal.org

The City of Salisbury, in partnership with Salisbury University's Eastern Shore GIS Cooperative (ESRGC), will conduct a housing quality study starting on June 1, 2024. Utilizing ESRI's Survey 123 and Field Maps applications, five student interns will perform about 11,481 field surveys across the City.

The purpose of this study is to gather important housing quality data to aid in decision-making. The goal is to replicate a similar 2018 study to provide comparable data for assessing property conditions, identifying potential solutions, and neighborhood comparisons.

Key aspects of the survey will include observations of property degradation risk factors and estimates of primary structure foundation heights.

The Tri-County Council for the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland has contributed $19,426.53 towards the total project cost of $52,957.00. Survey collection will occur from June 1 to August 30, 2024, with initial data delivery expected by September 15, 2024, and a full report by October 1, 2024.

The project schedule includes a project review with the City of Salisbury on June 30, 2024, data collection completion on August 30, 2024, project delivery (Geodatabase) by September 15, 2024, and report delivery by October 1, 2024.
