**Sarasota Police Department Responds to Distress Call During Hurricane Helene**

On September 26, 2024, during the storm surge of Hurricane Helene, the Sarasota Police Department's Marine Unit responded to a distress call from a sailboat near Centennial Park. Newly released body camera footage shows officers warning those on board about the rising water levels and urging them to evacuate immediately.

Despite hazardous conditions, officers worked to secure the boat and assist in the rescue efforts. Residents can view the full rescue footage on the Sarasota Police Department's YouTube page at tinyurl.com/SPDrescue.
