Jacksonville Breaks Ground on Pearl Square Development

Staff Report / jaxlocal.org

The City of Jacksonville held an official groundbreaking ceremony for Pearl Square, the first phase of the new Gateway Jax development downtown. The event took place at 515 N. Pearl Street on Tuesday morning.

The first building of the project will include over 200 residences and 20,000 square feet of retail space. Mayor Donna Deegan expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating her eagerness to enjoy the new downtown hub alongside shops and eateries.

The overall Gateway Jax project is an estimated $750 million investment, which, when completed, will feature 1,250 residences, 200,000 square feet of retail space, more than one acre of parks and open spaces, and 150 hotel rooms. The entire project has the potential to expand to 22 acres and over 20 blocks, with a projected investment of more than $2 billion over the next decade.
