The City of North Port, Florida, is informing residents, contractors, and the development community about the implementation of the updated Unified Land Development Code (ULDC). Two specific areas of the new code will not be strictly enforced until July 1, 2027, due to restrictions imposed by state law.

The first area involves guidelines for detached garages, carports, sheds, and other accessory storage structures. According to Section 3.7.5, structures that exceed 600 square feet or are visible from a public right-of-way must have an architectural design that is compatible with the primary structure.

The second area pertains to standard parking space dimensions, specified in Section 4.10.2. Parking spaces must be at least 10 feet wide and 20 feet long.

Residents are encouraged to voluntarily comply with these regulations before the enforcement date. For more information and to view a recent educational session, residents can visit NorthPortFL.gov/ULDC.
