Sarasota Removes 249,187 Tons of Storm Debris

Staff Report / sarasotalocal.org

As of October 16, 2024, the City of Sarasota has removed a total of 249,187 tons of storm debris following Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene. Contractors for the city have collected an estimated 40% of the debris citywide and have transported it to designated debris management sites.

Residents are reminded to assist in the collection process by properly separating their debris into categories: vegetative debris, construction and demolition debris, bulk items, and appliances (white goods). It is important to note that plastic bags containing vegetative debris and yard waste will not be collected.

For any questions regarding storm debris collection, residents can contact the City's storm debris collection hotline at 833-947-7739.
