**Red Tail Ridge Winery Gains Recognition for Sustainability and Exceptional Wines**
**Penn Yan, NY** – Red Tail Ridge Winery, nestled in the Finger Lakes of New York, has garnered national recognition for its innovative approach to winemaking and sustainable practices. The winery, founded over two decades ago, was recently featured in *Buffalo Spree* magazine, highlighting its journey and dedication to craftsmanship.
Winemaker and co-owner Nancy Irelan made history as the only New York State winemaker nominated as a James Beard Foundation semifinalist for "Outstanding Wine, Spirits, or Beer Producer." Irelan expressed her surprise at the distinction, saying, "Frankly, I was baffled as to how we made that shortlist. I didn't even know they had that category, let alone that anyone was aware of what we were doing in upstate New York."
Red Tail Ridge Winery has been at the forefront of sustainability in the Finger Lakes wine region. Since 2011, the winery has been gold-certified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, reflecting its energy-conscious design. The facility features solar panels that aid in heating, among other eco-friendly innovations.
In addition to its commitment to sustainability, Red Tail Ridge has ventured into creating a diverse lineup of wines. Their offerings include traditional and sparkling reds, whites, and rosés. A standout among their portfolio is *Perpetual Change*, a traditional method sparkling wine crafted using a solera process. The fractional blending technique imparts a complex character and depth of flavor to the wine.
Irelan has also focused on high-quality still wines, including single-varietal bottlings of riesling and cabernet franc, as well as *Rebel With a Cause*, a still and sparkling red wine. These wines are being placed in higher-end food markets, reflecting their growing reputation and appeal.
The recognition from the James Beard Foundation and the winery's continued innovation in sustainable winemaking underscore Red Tail Ridge's impact on the international wine community. Over twenty years in, Red Tail Ridge remains a proud standard-bearer for the Finger Lakes region.
Red Tail Ridge Winery, located near Seneca Lake, continues to share its story and connect with wine enthusiasts, reinforcing its commitment to quality, sustainability, and the future of winemaking.
