**Lightning Safety Tips Highlighted During Severe Weather Preparedness Week**

Wake County Government in Raleigh, North Carolina, is shining a spotlight on lightning safety during Severe Weather Preparedness Week, reminding residents that "Lightning can change your plans in a flash!"

The county has shared crucial tips to promote safety during thunderstorms, urging people to take immediate action when they hear thunder by seeking shelter indoors or in a vehicle with a hard-topped roof.

Key lightning safety measures include:

- Avoiding the use of sinks, baths, and faucets during a storm.

- Staying away from corded phones and electrical equipment.

- Remembering that lightning has the potential to strike up to 10 miles away from the area of rainfall.

- Waiting at least 30 minutes after the last thunder is heard before leaving your safe space.

These precautions are part of Wake County's efforts to prepare the community for severe weather events. For more safety resources, visit [ReadyWake](http://readywake.com).
