St. Charles County Fire Rehab Responds After Fire

St. Charles County Fire Rehab marked Memorial Day with a focus on support for first responders, who said they work around the clock and rely on volunteers.

According to the post, the call began when a fire broke out in St. Charles City at about 2:30 p.m. The incident was upgraded to a second alarm. Two volunteers responded to the call, and the truck was loaded at the station with three cambros of ice water and a bucket for cooling towels.

On arrival, the volunteers immediately placed out ice water and cooling towels, which were used quickly. The post said the heat from the blaze was significant enough that units across the parking lot had melted siding. After the fire was settled, volunteers brought out Gatorade and snacks.

The post said more than 50 first responders drank two full cambros of water and Gatorade, and that the cooling towels were widely used during warm weather conditions.

As part of a second mission, the volunteers said they helped a displaced man find a place to stay for the night. It also said a family of three displaced by the fire had a place they could stay. Residents were given hygiene kits and an “After Disaster Guide,” and another team member contacted the Red Cross to help start that process on their behalf.

About three hours after arriving on scene, Rehab1 was released and headed back to the station to restock and prepare for the next call.

The post said its mission depends on its volunteers and directed people interested in joining to sccfirerehab.org.
