Governor announces funding for small businesses in Downtown Salisbury.

Staff Report / Salisburylocal.org

Governor Wes Moore announced that several small businesses in Salisbury, MD, will receive a portion of $16.2 million in funding. The funds are issued through three separate grant programs from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.

Three new businesses in Downtown Salisbury will get a total of $282,000 from the Project Restore 2.0 grant funds. The money will be used for renovating and outfitting vacant buildings, as well as purchasing furniture, fixtures, and equipment. These businesses, including a tavern, a wine bar, and a café, are expected to open by the end of 2025.

Allen Swiger, the Director of the Arts, Business, and Culture Department, stated that the grant's aim is to revitalize downtown and historic commercial areas by turning vacant properties into active spaces. The new establishments are meant to enhance the vibrancy and appeal of downtown Salisbury, creating more options for people to enjoy and socialize.
