Wicomico County High School Students Enjoyed Adaptive Arts Camp

Staff Report / Salisburylocal.org

A new Adaptive Creative Arts Camp was recently held for high school students from James M. Bennett High, Wicomico High, and Parkside High in Wicomico County. The camp took place over two weeks in an art room at JMB, thanks to an $18,000 grant from The Donnie Williams Foundation. The camp was organized by adaptive arts teacher Jen Pitoniak and county autism specialist Katy Benton.

Students had the option to participate in the first week focused on drawing and painting or the second week focused on making things, or both weeks. This opportunity was provided at no cost to the students and their families, which included free transportation and lunch. Many students and families were excited about the chance to engage in creative activities and enhance life skills, especially for those experiencing their first summer camp.

The Maryland State Department of Education commended the efforts of Wicomico County Public Schools in providing this enriching experience for the students, who showcased their exceptional work during the camp.
