The City of Bend, Oregon said its offices are closed today in observance of Juneteenth.

The city said Juneteenth, also called Freedom Day, marks June 19, 1865, when the remaining 250,000 enslaved African Americans in Confederate states were legally declared free two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

The city added that in the 160 years since, the Juneteenth holiday is a time to gather with family and community, honor the present, and reflect on shared history and tradition.

Bend Man Arrested in Abuse Investigation

Bend Police arrested 35-year-old Davis Allen Kellar on Tuesday on charges including sexual abuse and contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor. The arrest followed a month-long investigation into reports he engaged in sexual acts with minors.
