Bend police issue e-bike safety and law reminders
The City of Bend Police Department issued reminders about e-bikes as the weather warms and the school year ends.
In its post, the department said e-bikes cannot be legally ridden by anyone under the age of 16, and that changes are coming on Jan. 1, 2027.
The department also listed other requirements:
- E-bikes cannot be ridden on sidewalks.
- E-bike riders must follow all rules of the road.
- Passengers are only allowed on e-bikes if the bike is designed and safely equipped for them.
The department said people can take a free class to learn how to safely and legally operate an e-bike through Commute Options.
