Wake County Champions Food Safety on Global Day

Today marks World Food Safety Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the importance of food safety in protecting public health. According to Wake County Government in Raleigh, North Carolina, unsafe food is linked to more than 200 diseases. Each day, an estimated 1.6 million people fall ill due to foodborne illnesses. In low- and middle-income countries, these illnesses contribute to approximately $110 billion in economic losses annually.

Wake County’s Environmental Health and Safety Division plays a key role in maintaining public safety by enforcing food safety regulations, investigating outbreaks, and providing education and consultations to reduce risks. Further details on food safety initiatives and related information can be found on the county’s official website.
